Sarah Pekkanen has written many books, and up until now the only ones I had read were written by her along with Greer Hendricks. But I enjoyed those, so I was happy to receive a copy of Ms. Pekkanen’s new book, The Women In White, in exchange for my honest review.
In the mid-1960s, a scientist was performing parapsychology experiments at a prestigious university, Four young women agreed to participate. After they mysteriously vanished, the program was ended and life went on. Decades later, a woman named Riley Bell is hired to be a caretaker for an elderly woman who lives alone – in a house with no microwave, internet, etc.
The story is told with dual timelines: the 1960s and present day. It is a compelling mystery as Riley seeks to uncover the mystery of what happened to the women who disappeared, and it is told well. Personally, I am not a big fan of parapsychology, so it wasn’t really for me, but it was well done, so it’s four stars, Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley.
