Wikipedia defines cryptocurrency this way: “A cryptocurrency, crypto-currency, or crypto is a collection of binary data which is designed to work as a medium of exchange.” Um, OK. But it’s never made sense to me. If I have a Bitcoin, or some Bitcoin, what do I actually HAVE? And how can I “spend” it? And in order to get it, did I have to take actual money out of an account somewhere (providing access to my account to do so?)?????
Clearly, I am clueless about cryptocurrency. So a book with a title like Cryptocurrency for Beginners sounded like just the thing for me. I wan’t familiar with the author Terry Borner — and I am still not. The publisher Books Go Social and NetGalley provided a copy in exchange for this honest review…but I am still clueless.
But really? I have learned that it is “…essential to check on the price of your cryptocurrency daily.” Also, that “As long as you realize that it can change in an instant, your should be okay with the transactions that you decide to make,” WTF?
I wasn’t reassured by this: “Imagine having your investments in Bitcoin, watching them grow like a gold rush from times of the past.” Honestly, I cannot recommend this book. It didn’t really explain the big picture or answer my questions noted above. Maybe I missed something, or possibly my thought that it is all a big MLM/scam/Ponzi scheme is correct. I just know this book didn’t do it for me. Two stars. And yes I’m still totally clueless.
