Legal thrillers are among my favorite genres, and William Bernhardt has been a reliable source of entertainment for years. He has both standalone and series offerings, with his series featuring Ben Kincaid and Daniel Pike among the most popular. I was happy to receive a copy of The Last Chance Lawyer (#! In the 7-book Daniel Pike series) from Bernhardt Books/Babylon Books and NetGalley in exchange for this honest review.
Originally published in 2019, the storyline could be one of those “ripped from the headlines” as we read about the current horrors of ICE and the deportation of people from south of the border. There are (as expected) some great courtroom scenes and what could have been an extraneous potential romance between a defense attorney and a district attorney, which turns out to be excellent. Just as I had hoped, this one kept me awake way too long, until I got to the conclusion.
Very entertaining, just as I had hoped! Four (strong) stars.
